Our food imports from Russia are negligible, the biggest impact in the US will be increased food prices due to higher transportation costs. However, many countries import a large portion of their commodities from Russia (I saw some stat yesterday that the Middle East imports something like 80% of their Wheat and Corn from Russia.) I suppose American farmers could see a huge windfall if they manage to have a bumper crop this year.

It’s the fertilizer that’s the biggest issue.

This is what I was thinking. If there’s a good harvest in the US, it could be a windfall for US agriculture. I did read that a huge % of fertilizer is made in Russia. Could mean higher input costs, but well worth the investment.

People don't realize how much oil impacts EVERY bit of their lives. Even recharging your Tesla is going to cost more.

The biggest problem is the shortage of fertilizer:

The problem with that is the cost of fertilizer due to the self-inflicted natural gas shortage.

Canada is one of our biggest traders in grains and lumber.A gallon of gas is going to be battling a box of cereal in cost.

“huge windfall”

Nope, production costs will eat up any increase in prices.

I have already talked to some snowbird grain farmers around here last week. They are going to plant just enough to pay for taxes and basic survival-if that can be done, and let the rest go fallow.

“the biggest impact in the US will be increased food prices due to higher transportation costs. “

Ever hear of the commodities market?
All that grain & corn being bought isn’t just for human food use.
The U.S. doesn’t exist in an isolated dome.
