My friend, who is a gun dealer, went to China for a holiday. Unbeknownst to him, there was one bullet that had fallen in the lining of his luggage when he was attending a show earlier that year. Actually, what seems to be missing is any claim that these charges are false/bogus, nor is there any other denial that she had illegal drugs inside Russia. The argument doesn't seem to be "let her go because she's innocent", but rather "let her.go because she's Brittney Griner."

I'm guessing the Russians are unlikely to be persuaded by that argument. Maybe they'll let her go if they think they can get some concession or propaganda victory out of it.
