At least 3 dead in series of wrecks on foggy stretch of Florida highway: authorities By Joe Tacopino and Joshua Rhett Miller March 3, 2022 3:10am Updated Massive pile-up on Florida highway
At least three people were killed in five separate crashes on a foggy stretch of a Florida highway with zero visibility early Thursday, authorities said.
Multiple wrecks involving at least 17 vehicles, including semi-trucks, shut down the northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 in Volusia County after troopers responded to Edgewater at about 1:30 a.m., WFTV reported.
Three people died in the wrecks and several others, including children, were rushed to hospitals, according to the station, citing Florida Highway Patrol officials.
A Jeep Wrangler and a semi-truck were involved in one of the southbound collisions and both drivers died from their injuries, WFTV reported.
Another person was killed in a crash on the northbound side of I-95 and a child was airlifted to a nearby hospital in stable condition, authorities told the station.
One of the crashes involved a semi-truck that caught fire and exploded, sending a huge plume of smoke into the air, video shows.

The Facebook post that I saw tonight noted: "Heavy fog was reported in the area this morning that mixed with smoke from a controlled burn." I originally, thought it referred to a controlled burn of the cars/trucks in the accident. After a second read, I see it refers to the conditions that may have been factors in the accident.
Thanks for posting. Prayers up.
Saw a video from this. Terrible.
I was in Orlando last week. Early morning fog was dense to say the least
Why did I know, without even reading the article, that the area of highway in question would have been either I-95 between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach, or I-4 between Daytona and Sanford? For some reason, those consistently seem to be the most dangerous/problematic stretches of interstate in Florida.
I have one rule about driving in dense fog. Just don’t do it. Check weather reports, traffic cams, etc. before leaving. If the fog is getting worse, put your flashers on and take the next exit or turn into the next parking area to wait it out at a gas station/ convenience store.
