Anti-capitalism is flooding TikTok as young people question a life that prioritizes productivity over well-being
In a TikTok video with 1.8 million views, a user who goes by the name Rama beams at the camera.
"Like many young adults, I used to want an enjoyable and meaningful life," Rama says with a smile, "that is, until I discovered capitalism.
"Now, I live in a society where my productivity matters more than my well-being, and so I'm just depressed and anxious all the time. I'm smiling, but I'm deeply wounded. I work three jobs, and I still feel like I'm not doing enough."
Anti-capitalism is taking over TikTok as users like Rama denounce America's glorification of the rat race. The pandemic prompted many American workers to rethink their life's purpose, and the youngest among them are questioning a life that endlessly pursues the next accomplishment.

What we have is not true capitalism. It is crony capitalism . The money flows to those who deal in political favors. America has invented a new kind of artistocracy . This new breed of Inbreds is an unholy predator/parasite alliance that devours those who actually make things.
Seriously? It figures.
Eat where you shat then.
There is always Capitalism, as there is always Capitalism.
What we called Communism is really just the Capital being controlled by the State.
What we advocate is “Free Enterprise” is distributing Capital to the individual, as opposed to either Government or to Oligarchs.
“Well-being” = lazy
This is the kind of thing that discourages me from giving to charity; if they’re unwilling to work to the extent necessary to be independent, then why should I be giving them my money when I have a house crying out for attention? I might as well just revise my W-4 to scratch charitable deductions. Sure, I’d be paying a little more tax, but they’re gonna be dependent, anyhow, so maybe that’ll help. Or I’ll just put more in my 401(k).
I know there should be some sort of work-life balance, but sometimes, you just need to man up and work your butt off, if necessary.

President Donald Trump on Thursday issued executive orders that would ban the social media app TikTok and WeChat from operating in the US in 45 days if they are not sold by their Chinese-owned parent companies.
The orders, which use similar language, do not state that a certain amount of money from the sale needs to be sent to the US Treasury Department, which the President has been insisting on for several days.
The order regarding TikTok prohibits after 45 days “any transaction by any person, or with respect to any property, subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, with ByteDance Ltd.,” the Chinese company that owns the social media platform.
The move turns up the pressure on negotiations over the popular video app’s future through a potential sale. The dramatic back and forth began when Trump said last Friday night that he would ban TikTok from operating in the United States using emergency economic powers or an executive order.
Tencent just became Trump’s new target in the tech war with China
Microsoft said Sunday that it was pushing forward with talks to acquire the app following a conversation between CEO Satya Nadella and the President. On Monday, Trump set September 15 as the deadline for TikTok to find a US buyer. Failing to do so, he said, would lead him to shut down the app in the country. In an unusual declaration, Trump also said any deal would have to include a “substantial amount of money” coming to the US Treasury.
Thursday’s order alleges that TikTok “automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users,” such as location data and browsing and search histories, which “threatens to allow the Chinese Communist Party access to Americans’ personal and proprietary information – potentially allowing China to track the locations of Federal employees and contractors, build dossiers of personal information for blackmail, and conduct corporate espionage.”
The good news is they gave us Article V to fix that. The bad news is even an impending Civil War was not enough of a counter scare to get the country to actually use it. The very power of Article V to change things is what has frightened Americans from doing the one thing meant to save it.
Anti-capitalism is flooding TikTok as young people supported by China or seduced by liberal propagandists....
So these kids THINK the China way of life is better because of course they don’t push productivity LOL, LOL, LOL
“Move to Russia, commie!”
I don’t know if you meant to be humorous, but that’s funny.
Tiktok doesn’t attract productive people. They have better thing to do than make stupid videos depicting people doing stupid things.
The chinese realized that a lot of people were posting stupid things on twitter. They knew that the video equivalent of twitter would attract millions more to post millions of really stupid videos.
Tiktok should have been banned.
time to work for the goobermint
I agree. This Rollerball-style corporatism has to stop. But I’m still not willing to give over 10% of my income to charity when people seem so unwilling to work.
love the story. thank you for sharing it.
It’s a chinese app. Of course it’s going to push anti-capitalism.
Half of young adults live with their parents. What they’ll do when parents die and they burn through their inheritance, only god knows.
