Putin was basing his plan on 2014. His maculated everything, basically. He didn’t realize Ukrainianian’s had shaken off the corruption of the Yanukovych years and are now hardened by 8 years of war. Putin doesn’t now have Merkel to bully the Ukrainians into surrender. If Merkel was still around no way Germany does what they have now.
Putin figured he could roll the Ukrainians and/or they would run out of ammo like 2014. He was wrong on both accounts. The Ukrainians are fighting like tigers and modern ammo is flooding in from NATO. This war is about to massively escalate.

If Russia collapses now because it’s been cooked off from every market that it occupies (energy) then it will collapse.
NATO is full of corruption. Warsaw Pact nations keep their distance.
If Ukraine becomes NATO then NATO will choke off Russia... all for vast amounts of petro dollars.
If Russia collapses China will happily carpet bag it. They’ll pour people across the border like a tsunami. China will dominate 50 percent of the planet.
And China will come after us.
My only hope of Russia is defeated is that Moscow and the Kremlin scorch the earth and destroy all military assets.
My money is on Putin being unsuccessful. His effort has too many things going against it. And, he isn’t going to use nukes. Russia spent 20 years trying to take Afghanistan, and it was a lost cause for them. And, Putin has even greater political obstacles with Ukraine.
