The Suicide of a January 6 Defendant: ‘They Broke Him’
American Greatness ^ | 28 Feb, 2022 | Julie Kelly

Matthew Perna was failed by the country he loved.

atthew Perna did nothing wrong on January 6, 2021.

The Pennsylvania man walked through an open door on the Senate side of the building shortly before 3 p.m. that afternoon. Capitol police, shown in surveillance video, stood by as hundreds of Americans entered the Capitol. Wearing a “Make America Great Again” sweatshirt, Perna, 37, left after about 20 minutes.

Less than two weeks later, Perna was ensnared in what the former top U.S. prosecutor called a “shock and awe” campaign to round up Trump supporters and deter them from demonstrating at Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021. After he discovered his image on the FBI’s most wanted list for January 6, Perna immediately contacted his local FBI office and voluntarily submitted to questioning; on January 18, six FBI agents arrested Perna at his home.

His life from that point turned into a nightmare. Perna was indicted by a grand jury in February 2021 on four counts including obstruction of an official proceeding and trespassing misdemeanors. Despite his nonviolent participation in the events of that day—he did not assault anyone, carry a weapon, or vandalize property—Biden’s Justice Department and local news media nonetheless made his life pure hell.

Whenever his hometown paper, the Sharon Herald, published an article on its social media account about Perna, the majority of replies were “horrible and brutal,” his aunt, Geri Perna, told me on the phone Sunday. After more than a year of legal and public torture, Perna saw no way out.

On Friday night, Matthew Perna hung himself in his garage.

In fact, that’s true.

. But in this case, this young man felt his country betrayed him with his prosecution. Trump, despite my beliefs about the participants, could have stopped any action against him or others before leaving office. He didn’t.

I have acquired many “clues”. I have no love for violence, riots or destruction. I have no love for those who disobey law enforcement. The “patriots” acted like BLM and ANTIFA. Other than not burning the building, virtually everything else was the same.

Not hypocritical at all. If anything it you and many others on this thread. If you believe these people are wrongly being prosecuted, there’s only one man who could have stopped it. And Biden and/or his DOJ wouldn’t have done it. And that one man, in his waning days in office was only concerned about himself and not those who were at the Capitol, illegally fighting for him. If anyone failed Perna, it was Trump. Only Trump should have blankety pardon them all.

Trump can do nothing until he is President.

This is a terrible take. What happens if Trump doesn't get elected President in 2024? Better still, how does he get elected in 2024 if hundreds of his supporters were held by the feds as political prisoners and he did nothing to support their plight and legal troubles for four whole years?

Does he just act dumb to the whole "political prisoners" thing and let things play out while families are destroyed and people spend years being mistreated in prison on tresspassing charges?

Trump can rally tens of thousands of supporters to a stadium event with just a few days' notice. He can't pardon charges or direct the DOJ to drop an investigation, but he can provide a voice to the effort, raise money and awareness, and give defendants hope that they so desperately need. He presumably has connections with the best legal minds the right has to offer and could pick up the phone to get their insight and assistance. He is also, presumably, a billionaire ... and sitting on a war chest of donations in a PAC that could go to messaging or maybe even hiring lawyers so these average Joes wouldn't be financially ruined by federal prosecutors over trespassing charges.

What sucks is, and I really really hate to say this, but these recent events have boosted Romney. And I believe secretly the Democrats want him to run in 2024, and this time, they’ll want him to win. Because they know the one thing that kills MAGA dead is for a Never Trumper Republican to get into the White House.

Does anyone think Romney wouldn’t wipe the floor with Biden with Independents.

Romney suddenly is a big problem. He’s got to be stopped now.

Romney ain’t got a chance in the primaries where candidate selection occurs.

But we could see a potential replay of the 1940 Convention when Wilkie got in, basically to make sure both candidates were pro Aid to Britain, and lock out the isolationists.

Let’s say I am. But unless you recognize the only person who would pardon them was Trump, and he abandoned them, then you are too. Even Trumps justice department began looking for people to charge Jan 7th.

But be honest. Who realistically could have pardoned or otherwise given these people amnesty? Biden wouldn’t. You and I both knew that going in. Only 1 person could. He had 2 weeks to do so. And he didn’t.

He abandoned them.

While a change in rules could be possible, it’s not likely. So that scenario stands about a zilch stance of happening. If someone gets to the convention with the necessary delegates, they are the man/woman. Romney doesn’t stand a chance in the primaries. Trump has converted the party from Romney to him.
