The IAEA added that the readings, while elevated, still remain “within the operational range.”

“The IAEA assesses that the readings reported by the regulator — of up to 9,46 microSieverts per hour — are low and remain within the operational range measured in the Exclusion Zone since it was established, and therefore do not pose any danger to the public,” the agency wrote Friday.

The IAEA’s main concern, however, is the continued and safe operation of Ukraine’s nuclear facilities amid an attack by Russian military forces.

IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi added that it was of “vital importance” that the country’s plants not be disturbed...

“Prove me wrong.”

LOL!

The article says the radiation is safe and within normal limits and not a concern. Not exactly a scare tactic!

“What’s your explanation for why the radiation is increasing?”

Which proves me correct --

"the radiation is safe and within normal limits and not a concern" = Headline: "Increased levels of radiation measured at Chernobyl after Russian forces take control"

I say that headline is a media scare tactic.

But I guess you can't see it.

” ... and now radiation is spiking! We’re all going to die!!”

Why would this be true?”

Because it is not spiking.

“Why would the Russians purposefully release radiation right next to their own country. This is some sad propaganda.”

“Hmmm... Driving tanks and trucks through radioactive dirt raises radiation readings. No way.”

Dirt was used to layer over contaminated soil.

““Chernobyl was pretty much under control for decades,”

Yes, Chernobyl, while not nothing, was NEVER the disaster it could have been or was portrayed to be.

The effects were very localized, and life for some humans and all wildlife and plants in the zone, continued as normal up to and including today.

You can take tours of the towns and at the reactor site itself. BUS TOURS!

Bus Tours in Chernobyl.

Corkhill added in a separate tweet. “What is intriguing is that the level of radiation has increased mostly around the main routes in and out of the Chernobyl exclusion zone, as well as the reactor. This would tend to suggest that increased movement of people or vehicles may have disturbed radioactive dust.”

Someone reported yesterday that Chernobyl was showing over 65,000mSvh.

I found this map. Can't vouch for veracity but it shows 65,500mSvh at Chernobyl. Look at the northern end of the lake to find it. Somebody be lyin'.

Well THAT would be a nasty thing to do.....Melt down Chernobyl in retaliation for being unable to easily take Ukraine. Hope that isn’t in the cards. Lots of OTHER countries would be in the fallout pattern.... and Russia seems a bit unhappy with Sweden and Finland too at this point.

Actually, this is quite possible from what I’ve read in the past; soil is contaminated by radiation, so one would necessarily believe that tossing that same soil in the air would result in increased radiation readings.

I don’t know about the readings, but I have read that the lake is a hot spot.

Radioactive material is in the plants and soil in that area. All you have to do is get off the roads and stir up some dust.

If you do any reading about that you will find that nobody is allowed to get off of the roads for a romp through the woods. Rains have washed the roads but radioactive particles linger in the other areas, particularly buildings.

People come in to take parts off of the acres of abandon vehicles. Those people tend to develop cancer.
