During my nearly 20-year ownership of Chelsea FC, I have always viewed my role as a custodian of the Club, whose job it is ensuring that we are as successful as we can be today, as well as build for the future, while also playing a positive role in our communities. I have always taken decisions with the Club’s best interest at heart. I remain committed to these values. That is why I am today giving trustees of Chelsea’s charitable Foundation the stewardship and care of Chelsea FC.

I believe that currently they are in the best position to look after the interests of the Club, players, staff, and fans.

It appears so

Got to be Putin. He’s ordering all the money home and preparing to bunker.

not clear...handing over control for decision making is different than handing over all the assets. this may be an attempt to keep them from being frozen

there is no way he just loses all that money that he put into Chelsea.

That's what I think.

Perhaps he's seen what's happened in Canada and believes that governments are just going to boldly take assets of people they don't like.

He’s not giving up his ownership position. It’s a magnanimous decision that is pretty much a slap at Putin. He should be applauded, and probably will be by the fans.

Chelsea is probably one of the top 6-7 richest clubs in the world.

According to Wiki, Abramovich is a dual Russian-Israeli citizen. He might have made his money through Putin, as do all oligarchs. But I doubt he's sending any of it back to Russia.
