A lot of what is being reported is fog of war or represent a pro-Ukrainian bias, as the U.S. press hass. Ukraine is the largest country entirely in Europe. It is roughly the size of Texas. The Russian invasion is only a few days old. However, if the Russians cannot take Kiev, Lvov, and Odessa in a few weeks, they will have been defeated.

I’m surprised they went for Kiev. I doubt they will take Lviv. It is likely to be too costly to take and hold the old Austro-Hungarian provinces around Lemberg.

I thought that the Russians would slice off the part east of a line southwest from Karkiv to the Dneiper and then west to the Moldavia border. That’s a lot for the size of their forces and it would achieve the objective of destroying the Ukrainian forces on the line of contact with Donetsk and Lughansk.
