Fortifications - armored/engineered fixed defenses - are no good in isolation but can be vital components in over all resistance to invasion. None are completely bulletproof but they can cause major delays to an advancing enemy.

Yes, well, I was referring to individual people stockpiling ammo for the theoretical collapse. Such an individual, even with a large family and a large stockpile, would eventually be overrun.
Guns, ammo, and cast iron are good to the extent they help acquire food for survival, but planning for major defense is not a good idea. A better idea is to acquire and use your enemy’s weapons: that way, you can always acquire more ammo by attacking the enemy.

Stockpile grain (oats, corn wheat) legumes and freeze drief fruit and veggies. If yo have that all covered then go to ammo. If that’s covered go to coins. JMHO. That’s my approach. I have no shiny coins. I have jewelry that I can claim is excess. My approach is may not fit your views and that’s ok. A 18K 20 in necklace looks less prepared than a .1 oz gold coin. It’s all just a trade off. Good luck. We are not getting out of this world alive.

An armed person can easily relieve someone who is unarmed of whatever they possess - $1.00 or $100,000.00, doesn’t matter.

Bullet jackets aren’t plain copper. They are gilding metal, a 95-5 alloy of copper and zinc. In other words, a form of brass.
It took the US War Dept 30 years of experimenting to come up with a mix & attendant heat treatment to minimize jacket metal fouling. Before that, special lubricants were used by target shooters to avoid much metal fouling by cupronickel jackets (in use since smokeless small arms ammo was introduced, in 1892). Lube was impractical for field use in rifles, and in machine guns generally.
Some bullet makers use solid bronze. Don’t know the formulation.

Let’s be clear: I am not advocating for disarmament. Far from it. In fact, self defense should be the first priority for everyone.
However, beyond what is needed to provide sustenance via hunting, and escape via a roadblock, I don’t see a need in building an armory. I will follow Sam Houston’s example before I follow that set by Will Travis.
But it won’t be you, will it?
