that’s too bad. I’m glad the humans survived. The grizzly is certainly a magnificent creature. The ones that attack armed and alert humans will perish.

“shed antler collector”... had to look that one up, not being a hunter:

I don’t mind the thinning out of a few shed hunters.

They scavange year round, they push elk and deer to exhaustion, they do it for money.

I remember an idiot here in town who services garage doors when not out harrassing big game.

He was walking back toward town when he somehow hooked his bear spray trigger, put up a blast of the stuff which blew back on him, almost put him out, and caused his dog to flee for half the afternoon, which made me laugh.

BTW he wasw also a crappy garage door man. Moron.

What’s really surprising is how well the kid stood up under the pressure of a charging grizzly, and managed to get off a few fatal rounds… And another thing that’s amazing is that it’s a 40 caliber pistol and not something heavier. Kid definitely had a guardian angel sitting on his shoulder that day.

Stories like this usually do not have a happy ending.

The record holder fired eight accurate shots at close range from a revolver, in one second.

Of course, that was Jerry Miculek. As a shooter, he is in a stratosphere of his own. He hit a balloon at 1,000 yards with a .44 magnum revolver! It took him 4 shots but the other three shots were near misses which just proved that the hit was not a fluke. Jerry and his .44 I'd be pretty confident against a charging grizzly if Jerry Miculek was between me and the bear with his .44 magnum. I'd guessing though if he had a choice for that situation, he'd be armed with a rifle or shotgun.

Your point though is spot on. Someone who is experienced with a pistol can get off a lot of shots off in a hurry.

No. It was not reported. Identities were redacted in the FOIA return.

“did the cub survive?” Nope.... caught a round and was put down.

That is a shame that the cub died. The mother was only defending her young. I wish she had never crossed the path of those two antler collectors.

I wish she had never crossed the path of those two antler collectors.

Or better yet, she went the other way. A hair-trigger sow grizzly that would charge from that far is a danger to any other person who gets even remotely close to her.
