A Blue Alert happens when a law enforcement officer has been hurt or killed on duty.
Miedema was pulled over for a routine traffic stop around 10 p.m. Tuesday near Salem. He opened fire and shot Deputy Troy Anderson, who was airlifted to a hospital in life-threatening condition.
Wednesday, deputies were called to a residence near the Taylor County-Dixie County line where a homeowner reported the shooting of an intruder.
The homeowner stated he exchanged gunfire with the suspect that broke into his residence and the suspect was killed.
FDLE Tallahassee Special Agent in Charge Mark Perez stated that investigators believe that suspect was Blue Alert subject Gregory Ryan Miedema. The suspect’s body was found near the same car that was listed in the Blue Alert. Multiple firearms were also found.
The homeowner was hospitalized and released with minor injuries.

Hope the officer makes it, I like happy endings.
Leave it to Florida Man to continue with the break-in plan AFTER shooting a cop on a traffic stop.
The guy is a child abuser, he probably had no plans of breaking and entering that home when he was pulled over. But after he shot the cop, he knew the manhunt was on and likely decided to flee and find a random place to hide and, luckily for society, chose poorly.
The guy was convicted of sexually abusing a child when he was in the army. He was into kiddie porn. When he got pulled over he probably thought it was for something he did along those lines that could land him in jail for a long time and shot the cop.
"When someone enters your home, you are the first line of defense," Butler said in support of the homeowner. "He woke up this morning not expecting to go through this. But he was prepared and he gets to live this evening and embrace his loved ones."
Just wanted to highlight that statement.
Woo hoo! Shooting a dirtbag like this is like scraping dog crap off your heel
Most likely a Democrat.

Sounds like the Sheriff of Polk County, FL that gives those great interviews.
I doubt politics was ever on this guy’s mind.
Remind me again why we have the police? The ones where I live harass the soft-target after church crowd but turn a blind eye to anyone who is a real threat to them or the “so-called” citizens they “protect and serve” (HA!). What a bunch of bull$hit they have all become. Lap dogs and toadies to the crook-politicians is about all they’re good for.
sheriff (elected) are accountable to the people. Police (appointed) are accountable to the politician.
Good shooting.
I live here in a rural county near where this occurred. The Sheriffs in this area are very well respected by their citizens. The Sheriffs in Taylor,Dixie,Jefferson,Madison, Franklin,
Gulf, Bay and Wakulla Counties are fiercely pro 2A and Constitutional Carry. They routinely make public statements that will not enforce or assist any Federal agency that would be sent to enforce any kind of firearm confiscation and would actively resist such efforts. This is rural Florida, our Sheriffs are the good guys.
This is yet another reason everyone should be armed.
I called sheriff Grady Judds office a few years ago to ask what his position was on 2A. Let’s say I hung up a happy woman. Add Polk county to that list
Police are only as good as their masters.
You’re correct. We live in Madison County and our Sheriffs are great.
