Gael Monfils has revealed his withdrawal from recent tournaments is due to a probable adverse reaction to his third dose of coronavirus vaccine.
The Frenchman has not played since a one-sided loss to Swede Mikael Ymer in Montpellier three weeks ago and will not represent his country in Davis Cup next week.
Monfils, 35, is hoping he will be able to return for the Masters tournaments in Indian Wells and Miami next month.
Writing on Twitter, Monfils said: 'Hello everyone, I wanted to give you some news following my recent withdrawals from tournaments. I suffered a small health glitch (probably following my third dose of vaccine).
'On the advice of my doctor, I decided to take some time to rest. So unfortunately I will not be able to play the Davis Cup next week. I hope to be able to return in the United States.'
Monfils, ranked 25, made a strong start to the season, winning his first title for two years in Adelaide and then reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
He is the second French player to be forced off court after a suspected adverse reaction to a coronavirus vaccine.
Jeremy Chardy, now ranked 138, has not played a match since the US Open last summer.
Novak Djokovic, who is playing his first tournament of the season in Dubai this week, is the only unvaccinated player in the men's top 100.

Ditto with all 7 members of my immediate family, from age 28-82, not a single adverse effect, all had 3rd booster already.
Those covid vaccines are a BIG NOTHING BURGER.
If you had college education in statistics, you would know that if 250,000,000 Americans already are jabbed, and less than 0.02% have died from it, IT IS A BIG NOTHING BURGER vaccine for adverse effect.
All you got is anecdotes, no statistics.

I'd roll in for my four-day-week nine o'clock Physics III class, and just catch the stupid schlubs who had to take Stats 101 at 8 am, 5 days a week, as they left to go to their next loser class for dimbulbs.

Why you want to avoid hearing ACTUAL EXPERIENCE with those vaccines from 250,000,000 Americans such as myself who are reporting no adverse effects for 99.98% of us?
Anecdotes? I have spoken with a couple of nurses that have said the number of people coming in with strokes and heart issues dwarfs the numbers in any one year period over their 15, and 9 year careers respectively. One is an emergency room nurse and said the trend is actually getting worse.
My niece (34) had to be hauled into the hospital emergency room about two hours after the shot, in anaphylactic shock. That was in the summer. She cannot move for more than about 2 hours a day and used to be quite active; before the shot.
My best friend’s niece (31) had a stroke within 36 hours and spent a couple of weeks in a coma. Too bad there are uncaring people like you calling them anecdotes.
First your numbers are wrong.
Second I have 0 side effects from the vax I didn’t take.
Third, you gloat like an asshole on numerous threads.
Fourth the survival rate is over 99.9% for people like me.
You are the least wise and kind geriatric douchebag I have ever interacted with.
Add up all the anecdotes, then divide that number by 250,000,000 Americans jabbed so far. When you get that number figured out, post a message please.
I have NEVER ADVOCATED anyone should get those vaccines.
In fact, I have posted NUMEROUS times, anyone opposed to the jabs please skip them. I don’t think most people need those vaccines.
MY ONLY POINT remains, on STATISTICAL basis those vaccines are a big nothing burger.
You just flaunted being able to go to places with your vax card, and asked the unvaccinated if “doing dishes for themselves was fun”.
You’re fine with treating unvaccinated people like second class citizens.
