We have been utter fools.
We have treated Russia with amazing stupidity. Now we pay the price for that. We had the chance to make her an ally, friend and partner.
Instead we turned her into an enemy by insulting a great and proud country with greed, unearned superiority, cynicism, contempt and mistrust.
I have to endure, often several times a day, listening to people who are normally perfectly sensible and reasonable, raging wildly against Russia and Russians.
Once, I was just like them. I had the normal anti-Russian prejudice of so many Western people.
But, by great fortune, I am not like them now. I lived in Russia, I knew Russians as friends. I learned to distinguish between what was Russian and what was Communist.
And I saw something most people will never see – a pivotal event in history, when we could have changed the world for the better.
One of the most joyful moments of my life was the day Communism died in Moscow.
I could have sworn the sky was actually clearer and brighter, the people looked happy instead of downtrodden – even the revolting, corrupt traffic police, for once, went into hiding.
The litter bins were full of red-and-gold Communist Party membership cards, burning merrily in the late summer sunshine as they dissolved into grey ash.
So I drove my red Volvo through the liberated city, a lot faster than usual, proudly displaying the special yellow number plate (with its 'K' for 'Korrespondent' and its '001' for Britain, top nation) which had up until then simply made me a target for bribe-hunters and officious cops who prevented me from going on picnics in the missile-crammed woods outside the city.
I even found myself singing the hymns of my childhood......

What crisis?

The “Crisis” the Rats are trying to manufacture to stifle dissent in this country.
I would suggest after Communism ‘died’...Cronyism simply took it’s place and delivered Putin.
I would agree...the middle-class of Russia benefited greatly from the past thirty years. They might grumble over Putin, but their lives have greatly improved.
Oddly enough, if you view street interviews from Moscow...vast majority are standing there shaking their head. They don’t see the logic in this Putin-game...other than demonstrating how weak the EU/US are.
Echoes of George F. Kennan.
Russia, Russia, Russia
Reds under the bed
Media also feeds it.
It’s a stupid narrative but it works for the Dems and the neocons in DC.
Jerkoff there ain’t no crisis
Russian refuseniks moved into the house next door. Marat passed away a few months ago and Galina is alone now. Such good and caring people and more anti communist than I am, if that could be possible. My learning Russian fell by the wayside but Galina's English got better.
Hillary's reset button was the lowest point, in spite of what Resident Biden claims now.
This is the phrase that I still remember:
вот моя визитная карточка (vot moya vizitnaya kartochka)
When I heard that Hunter Biden received a $3.5 million wire transfer from Elena Baturina, the richest woman in Russia and the widow of Yury Luzhkov, the former mayor of Moscow, I knew the oligarchy was alive and well in Russia. It is ruled by an oligarchy and we are in danger of being ruled by them too. This statement by Hitchens describes what these oligarchs did when Communism fell:
“What was unleashed instead was an army of carpetbaggers from the West, shouting about the free market, who quickly found their match in the crooks and corruption experts, many of them high Communist officials, who rushed to exploit and fool them.”
Red China is the enemy, not Russia.
US Ambassador to USSR & Yugoslavia 1952 & 1961-63
Excerpt from George F. Kennan, “A Fateful Error,” New York Times, 05 Feb 1997
“Why, with all the hopeful possibilities engendered by the end of the Cold War, should East-West relations become centered on the question of who would be allied with whom and, by implication, against whom in some fanciful, totally unforeseeable and most improbable future military conflict?”
“Bluntly stated..expanding NATO would be the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post-Cold War era. Such a decision may be expected to inflame the nationalistic, anti-Western and militaristic tendencies in Russian opinion; to have an adverse effect on the development of Russian democracy; to restore the atmosphere of the cold war to East-West relations, and to impel Russian foreign policy in directions decidedly not to our liking … ”
Oh please. The media has been covering for Russia for a long time. Remember when Obama was caught saying he could do more for Putin after his reelection and the media ignored it? Have you gone full Obama?
Give me a humble Russian than a smug insufferable American liberal any day
Yeah I’ve gone full Obama... /s 🙄
Just calling it as i see it.
Media does the bidding of whoever is in power. It can also change and pivot to suit certain interests
BTTT
Biden’s White House Staff; aka, Obozo’s White House Staff, are a bunch of fools. They seem to be making the decisions for Biden. He has played into Putin’s scenario to build Russia back better and Putin is gladly taking advantage of their stupidity. This would never have happened under Trump’s leadership.
Feel sorry for him. He worked so hard on his “Blame America First” think piece and then Putin decided he doesn’t care about being a disciplined liar anymore and blurted out that it wasn’t really about the West and he just wants his evil empire back.
For the past 30 years the neocon Republicans (Bush, McCain, Graham, and most GOP members of Congress) kept the nation mired in senseless wars in the Middle East which contributed greatly to the bankruptcy of the USA. Plus they enabled the financialization of the economy and the offshoring of the greatest industrial infrastructure on the planet. Not to mention the gutting of the middle class and aggregation of the nation’s wealth in the hand of a few.
Now they are allied with the Democrats in beating war drums against Russia over Ukraine. The same Democrats who have destroyed the public education system, allowed millions of invaders to cross the southern border, removed religion from our culture, created a corrupt two tier judicial system, destroyed the nation’s health care system and are hell bent on imposing a socialist economy.
The leaders of both political parties are allied in desiring war with Russia over a corrupt country that borders Russia and represents zero threat to the US homeland. Given the havoc and destruction both sides of the political spectrum have willingly imposed on the nation over the past three decades why should any average citizen support this latest bipartisan scheme?
What possible good can come from another war on the other side of the planet? Since WWII this nation has shed the lives of over 100,000 soldiers fighting wars in Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East. Trillions of dollars have been wasted on these ventures and paying for the defense of wealthy Western European nations who hate us and play us for fools.
Our nation at home is Balkanized, our infrastructure is crumbling, our culture is rotting, our economy is collapsing under unprecedented debt, and millions of people are crossing our unprotected border each year to permanently settle in our homeland.
Let the wealthy nations of Europe, run by arrogant America hating socialists, deal with Putin and Ukraine in their own backyard. This is not our fight or our concern.
In his farewell address George Washington warned future leaders of the new nation not to get involved in foreign entanglements. We need to heed his advice, not follow the direction of the corrupt politicians who have enriched themselves for a generation supporting every policy and war that has economically, morally, and spiritually bankrupted our nation and society.
I am not happy with Biden, but I think he is much better than Obama. Biden doesn’t have these commie “Black Panther” lunatics in high places.
Obama’s girl Valerie Jarret was of that ilk and stopped all and any arming of Ukraine for what I assume to be commie reasons.
Biden brought on Michael Carpenter, who talks sense (even too much sense for Democrats).
