Red Parent, Blue Parent When it comes to masks, vaccines, and curricula, parents are divided over what matters most: parents’ rights, or the common good?

...Republicans are more likely than Democrats to want parents to be the only decision makers when it comes to protecting their kids from both the coronavirus and controversial ideas. In polls, they are more inclined to say that protecting personal liberty is more important than the common good; that masks and vaccines shouldn’t be mandated in schools; and that parents should get a say in what children are taught. “I feel like, as a parent, we know what’s best for our children,” Erica, a Virginia mother...told me. “If you want to wear a mask, please do. But please don’t force me to have my child wear a mask.”

Democrats, meanwhile, are more likely to express interest in protecting the common good. They’re more likely to feel that, in school, students should learn to fix social problems. And in polls, they’re more likely than Republicans to trust teachers and public-health officials. Caroline Pharr, a Democratic mom in Helena, Montana, supports universal masking in schools in part because it “protects communities, including those that can’t choose to get vaccinated yet,” she told me. “Wearing a mask doesn’t just impact you; it impacts everyone around you.” She thinks that public-health officials, not individual parents, should be the ones to decide when masks come off in schools.

...

Still, the fight over whether to prioritize parental control or community well-being has played out in other school-related imbroglios across the country in recent months....While conservatives focus on parental rights, liberals are more likely to endorse the idea that curricula and school public-health guidelines should leave no vulnerable person behind. In an op-ed..., the parent group Loudon4all emphasized the potential benefits of universal masking for other people, writing that it “is not just to keep students healthy; it keeps educators healthy and prevents community spread.”

Personal liberty IS the common good.

Besides, I don’t want a bunch of leftists deciding for me what my good is.

I am perfectly capable of deciding for myself what is best for me.

There is no such thing as the common good. It’s a ruse to get people to obey. Anything done for the common good isn’t.

Post of the day.

Well said.

If masking worked, it would be the common good. But there is no shred of evidence, let alone proof that masking has saved a single life, anywhere at any time.

Tens of millions have been imprisoned, tortured, maimed, and killed in the name of “the common good.”

It has nothing to do with the common good. “Do it for the children” is just a leftist control tactic to make you willingly give into their demands without a fight.

Eastern governments, eastern society, is all about the collective. The individual is subordinate. Like an ant farm. Kamikaze was a thing, and those who took that assignment thought it was normal social conduct under pressure.

OTOH, western civilization puts high value on individualism.

Liberals are anti-individualism, and pro-collective. Suicide of West Civilization is the unstated goal of liberals. Enter into a deal with liberals and it is literally a suicide pact.

There is no amount of personal liberty a liberal won't give up once they emote that the conformity is good for all. They think they are smart.

And they aren’t masks.

They’re muzzles.

America’s kids are just more of Fauci’s beagles to Deep State and its teachers unions.

A few months after 15 days to flatten the curve began, I called my barber for an appointment. He retired because he was a cancer survivor. These teachers should quit if they are too scared to teach in person. It is clear now mandates don’t work.

False choice. You can only consider it for the common good if the threat from covid were significant enough.

Otherwise, masks and vaxes required forever because flu kills too.

CoupFlu has NEVER been about public health.

>>They’re more likely to feel that, in school, students should learn to fix social problems<<

And here we come to the core of the issue. Schools are no longer about teaching kids to read, write, do math, and impart life skills.

The purpose of the school systems are now to shape the attitudes of the children so that they become good little socialists.

Kids are more likely to die from thug violence in the schools, than from COVID.

I agree. If the 5 blue state governors hadn’t returned covid positive patients back to nursing homes and let it rip, we might be in a different place now. Remember Fauci said New York did it right? Why would anyone listen to this guy after those Jul 2020 comments.

In mid-March Trump’s admin had CMS change the regs to allow nursing homes to refuse.

Those govs sent the patients back anyway.

And the vast majority of residential care facilities complied.

Nobody has ever gotten to the bottom of that. Why the facilities complied when Trump’s admin gave them the ability to refuse.

Congress clearly doesn’t give a damn.

Betcha there are a number of stories there...

How state governments bribed/threatened facilities into accepting sick patients.

Which patients were sent back? Were Medicaid and dual-eligibles sent back more often than patients with Medicare/MediGap?

Are the death tolls accurate? Were those deaths all due to CoupFlu? Was the stat goised up to scare the public? Explain away residential care deaths due to negligent, crappy care?

Clearly nobody is interested on getting to the bottom of all that.

Including Rand Paul.

I live in Illinois. Pritzker wasn't one of the blue state governors that sent covid patients back to LTCF. That said, through last spring ~half of all covid deaths were in LTCF. At some point last year, the state quit reporting LTCF deaths on their website. I think they just want to hide it, because it makes them look bad.

Another reason they yanked the LTCF stats is because they would show vaccine breakthrough infections.
