Still safer than Chicago or Atlanta.

Americans are causing the resort drug wars.
Don’t buy drugs in Mexico.

WHY would anyone with a functioning, cogent brain, go to the Turd World, for a “vacation”?

The Mexican face of White Supreemism, I’m sure. “Gun violence” and all.

I’m glad we visited Tulum many years ago. Wouldn’t go now.

Mex gov is trying to make Tulum another Cancun. Port area has cruise-ship retail but the rest is ‘in progress’.

I’ve been there. Its basically Mayan ruins connected by a dirt road with roadside taco stands. It’s very much off the beaten path.

Last time the wife and I were in that area (Jan. 2019) there was a big drug gang shootout in downtown Cancun. Don’t know if or how many people died, but Tulum itself was a real treat, from a beauty and historical perspective.

We gifted a week of our time share to her parents back in 2015. They went to Mazatlán. While they were there, there was a major drug gang shootout in the center of town. Killed a bunch of baddies.

Mexico is a failed narco-terrorist state, and has been for decades. For now, as long as you stick to the designated tourist zones, you’ll be OK to visit, briefly. Too bad. It has so much to offer....

We were robbed at gunpoint by Mexican cops (or someone pretending to be cops) on the beach near Zihuatanejo in 1974. Haven’t been back.
