Lord, they were lucky. Helicopter crashes are usually ugly.
It appears to me they were terrain following and lead took them into granite cumulous.

Incredibly lucky. You sound experienced, which I’m not. I was guessing they clipped rotors somehow after watching the video.

Helicopters are airborne bricks when the rotors stop.
Of course, ANY aircraft is a brick when it collided with another.
Glad the crews are ok. It’s always good to go home at the end of the day and see family…
