Atlanta’s famed rainbow crosswalks defaced by apparent street racers

ATLANTA — Atlanta’s famed rainbow crosswalks were the target of street racers Sunday night.

NewsChopper 2 was over the intersection of Piedmont Avenue and 10th Street, where tire marks indicate someone did donuts on the city’s symbol of gay pride.

Atlanta police said units did respond to reports of street racing in the area but did not find anyone or issue any citations. It’s unclear if Atlanta police intend to follow up on the reports.

I was renting while attending Tech and the house was a dump. I'll check the address but it's probably been torn down and replaced with a new structure.

Midtown Atlanta has been a gay mecca for the Southeast for 40+ years. That was going on when I was in college nearby.

And back in the day I would often walk from Tech home.... through the 5th Street tunnel and eventually over to Virginia Avenue. It was a nice residential neighborhood once you crossed Peachtree.

From Street View, it’s still the same old dump, probably renovated inside. Zillow Zestimate is $366,000. LOL!

You wouldn’t believe all the hi-rise residential condos and apartments in Midtown today, between Piedmont Park and the Connector, and from North Ave to say 17th St. That area is quite the tech corridor. It’s pretty nuts if you remember what it was 40-50 years ago.
