Being the Writer of My own Story.

Being the Writer of My own Story.

We had a friend in high school whose nickname was “Crash”. A few years after high school, after we were married, we visited our hometown and had the pleasure of taking him to the hospital after he crashed his dirt bike and split his nose open. Again, a few years later, after a stint in the Air Force, he became a private pilot and at a church/fly-in breakfast at the local airfield, he invited me to go flying with him. When I was being carried on the wind in his little plane I thought “oh my goodness, what have I gotten myself into?” He asked me if I was nervous? “Why would you think that?” “Because you have been talking non-stop”. I realized that he was no longer the kid always looking for an adrenaline rush, but that he was responsible for our safety, and I enjoyed the view of flying over rivers and mountains. When we landed safely, I thought that I would never do that again! When the disciples were in a boat with Jesus a storm came up and Jesus was sleeping. The storm threatened to sink the boat and drown the men aboard. Full of fear, they woke Him up, “don't you care that we are going to drown?” they demanded. Jesus could have responded by saying “do you really think that I don't care about you?” Instead, He told them to have more faith. Then, Jesus took authority over the wind and the waves. Recently, we once again met up with our friend in our home and caught up on the years that pass so quickly. I told him about being sexually assaulted and strangled and becoming handicapped due to a stroke that resulted from my injuries and how during my recovery, I became a writer and through my writing of life's experience and my precious relationship with Jesus, I can run and by my faith I can fly!

While showing him our home, which we bought after decades of military service, I realized that in our journey, we had been like a ship being carried on the waves. The tides took us where they wanted us to go, but a light house was always there telling us to watch out for the rocks; that light house was the God. We followed the guiding of love that led us safely home. When I realized that I would never walk like I used to, I had to first accept that some evil force had a harmful plan for my life, but I refused to let that plan steal my joy of life from me. I became the writer of my own life story and from that point on I praised God for the simple pleasures of enjoying everyday miracles of God and His creation; of living with intense absorption of the natural world, knowing that my soul was my own story to write, and that God loved me so much that He wanted me to write a beautiful story. When I see in the news those who are trespassing on others right to live their own peaceful lives, honoring God, they seek to gather for themselves treasure, being led by the ultimate thief, the jealous devil, who knows he will never attain heaven, so will try to take as many people to hell with him. Jesus told us that He is the good shepherd who lays down his life for His sheep. A sheepfold was a stone enclosure, and the shepherd controlled the doorway. We have the freedom to go in and out, led by the shepherd to find green pasture and still waters, to have our souls restored from those who did not know how to have a pleasant journey. They are the shadows, casting gloom and doom over the valley. As God's children, we follow our shepherd who deals with the wolves. We have a table prepared for us in the house of the greatest storyteller, He tells us not to let other stories make us afraid. In Him, our story has the best possible content, full of love and enjoyment in our lifetime.

We may not have had choices about where our parents led us but as adults, we can choose our own way. We have the ability as landowners to be the kings and queens of our little kingdoms, when we watch the sunset dazzle us with brilliance or we eat a delicious meal that we grew part of and having the contentment that this day we were given, we made the day to be full of love and honor. We can sleep in peace knowing that the next day God will load us with benefits and grace, and we can wake with an expectant hope in the giver of all good gifts! From sunrise to sunset God is faithful!
