This is how I keep up with local conditions in Mesa County, Colorado. Notice that virtually all current case outbreaks are in either elder care facilities or schools. A few are at businesses but they are small in case numbers.

Total people under 19 years of age hospitalized now: 2

Based on a much better risk outlook, my wife is going to her gym again.

Forgot to add: Population of Mesa County, Colorado is about 160,000. Few restrictions, masks mainly required only at some medical facilities. Groceries require masks for the unvaccinated but no one checks or pays attention and a small minority are masking.

“Groceries require masks for the unvaccinated but no one checks or pays attention and a small minority are masking”.

Grocery stores in La Plata County (Durango) do not require masks. WTH?

Having gone to the site, I failed to find total deaths shown as a data point throughout the page. Perhaps I missed that data point on the first page of the dashboard. Most was formatted to "one week" and "last two weeks" kinds of things, excepting the "vaccination progress" graph.

Does this other page represent the total, as far as you are concerned?

https://health.mesacounty.us/?s=total+deaths&et_pb_searchform_submit=et_search_proccess&et_pb_include_posts=yes&et_pb_include_pages=yes

If the graphic is accurate for 2020 and 2021, and the first months of 2022 are included, about 150 deaths attributed to Covid are Mesa County's total deaths. Taking your count of the population....

( 150 deaths / 160,000 population ) x 100 = 0.094 % Mesa County mortality rate.

In practice it’s the same up here. They just put signs up and have free masks available at the City Markets but people do what they want with no interference. Our small local grocery has no signs, no nothing.

By the way, I haven’t been in Durango in a long time. Are stories about pot-bums laying around everywhere true or an exaggeration? Did the Animas recover from the EPA spill?

There’s a running total for every county at the Colorado Covid site. Totals deaths in Mesa county are 637. I don’t care about that running total, I’m only interested in what’s happening now. Mesas County has had more cases per capita than most from what I can tell. People here pretty much do what they please, restrictions are mostly ignored and no one pushes it.

Only place I’ve worn one in months was the doctor’s office, but they are not requested at the Dematologist office or the Dentist’s office even for entry.

The reason I don’t follow total deaths is that the death counts never moved during this huge burst of cases in the county. They jiggled around because there’s noise in the daily numbers but they went nowhere compared to death counts in the prior smaller waves.

Deaths and breakouts are mainly in the elder care homes.

Thanks for that info.

There are a lot of homeless but they have settled them into areas outside town where they can set up camps. Some went south for the winter.

Last summer and fall some wandered around town but I don’t remember hearing of them laying on the sidewalks. Some tourists and merchants complained of the smell of pot in the air and the police told them they had to get away from downtown to smoke their pot. I think most complied.

Yes, from what I’ve heard the Animas has recovered from the spill.

Thanks for the reply.

Lugging the number into the simple equation: then ( 637 / 160,000 ) X 100 = 0.4 % mortality rate. Four tenths of one percent over twenty-six months makes Mesa County a safe haven.

It surely seems that "cases" makes the news these days.
