I don't know that it is fair to call them 'sellouts'.
They weren't skilled enough to play on the American team, so they played on a team that would have them. That's different from a Gold Medal caliber athlete who abstained from representing the Country that she ostensibly was from, to play for a Country that she perceived she gain more benefits (financial, or otherwise). That person (or persons) I'd label as a 'sellout'. Not these hockey players.

Sellout would be a nicer word to use.

As I understand it, the Oxford University team is composed of half of the male Canadians at Oxford. Hockey is a niche sport, and if one isn’t in a place where it makes sense, one does what one can to pull together something.
