I’m having to force myself not to look at seed catalogs or websites anymore. Every time I see mention of inflation or supply shortages, or the unrest in Canada, I get the urge to buy more seeds, and I just don’t have room anymore!
On a happier note, my chickens are determined to believe it’s springtime already, in spite of the snow and the freezing temperatures. I have over 2 dozen eggs in the fridge now, and they just keep coming!
On my to-do list today is making a new threshing bucket for small grain. I made one a few years ago, but parts went missing, and when I found them recently they were pretty much destroyed. Fortunately a threshing bucket is easy to make. I’ll try and take photos of the process and write up a how-to.
Interesting update on my bean-breeding project. I had assumed the beans still held their pods too low for mechanical harvesting. But recently I saw some pictures of a large-scale pinto bean farm, and one photo showed the plants holding the beans even lower than my beefy beans do. That means I might already be there! Now I just need the right equipment so I can test that theory.
