“Better than a sharp stick in the eye” is a useful adage. “I had to wrestle a frozen turd away from my beagle, but it’s better than a sharp stick in the eye,” you might say. “My breakfast burrito tastes disconcertingly gamey, but it’s better than a sharp stick in the eye,” you might also say. You know what’s worse than a sharp stick in the eye? A splash of jalapeño in the eye, that’s what. Even tiny amounts of spicy foods can cause blinding eye pain and injury. Fortunately, there are a few tactics you can try to ease the burn.

Wearers of either hard or soft contact lenses should have soaking/wetting solution available. It is sometimes called multi-purpose solution. Flood your eyes with the stuff.
DON'T PUT ANY CONTACT LENS SOLUTION FROM A BOTTLE WITH A RED CAP DIRECTLY INTO YOUR EYES.
I tried that once by mistake.

Full fat milk. If you have half and half that might be better.
The capsaicin is an oil. It mixes with the fat in the milk and washes out.

I grew African Ghost Peppers (also called bhut jolokia) last summer with a Scoville heat unit rating of 1,041,427 SHUs. Once they were bright red; the size of walnuts, I strung them up to dry by a heat register. When crackling dry I put them in my coffee grinder and ground them to a fine powder. My eyes started to water, so I left the kitchen. I started again sealing a plastic produce bag over the grinder. That solved the problem of irritating my eyes. I placed my spice bottle and a funnel inside the plastic bag, sealing the open end of the bag. Inside the bag, I emptied the grinder into my spice bottle and sealed the bottle cap. I did the rest of my peppers, until I got about 4 ounces of fine powder.
I like to put 1/16th teaspoon of my hot pepper powder in spicy V-8 juice for a extra spicy Bloody Mary. Also, 1/4th teaspoon (more if you like) does wondrous magic to my chili con carne.

Drop of olive oil. Capsacin (the hot stuff) is soluble in oil but not in water. Using water makes matters worse.

The nice thing about chile pequins is they are a perennial that you can plant just once and enjoy the harvest for years to come. They are about 8 times hotter than a jalapino(30,000 to 60,000 Units). It would be nice if yours lasted through the winter. Enjoy.
I read that my African Ghost Peppers are also perennial in zones 8-10. I checked whether my plant is showing some life and it does not look like it did.

It happened to me once. I was slicing some jalapeños and accidentally rubbed one eye. I laid down on the couch for about 30 minutes before it went away.
