Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer And Regina Hall To Host Oscars (barf alert)
Deadline ^ | 02/14/2022 | Patrick Hipes, Mike Fleming Jr

Posted on 02/18/2022 9:42:37 AM PST by simpson96

Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall have been set to host the 94th Oscars, which is returning to an emcee format for the first time since 2018. Deadline confirmed the news Monday.

(snip)

The search for host went through all kinds of manifestations. It has long been considered a thankless job, and that has been exacerbated by the pandemic. But last year’s host-less debacle made it clear they needed someone to center the telecast. The Academy first approached Dwayne Johnson, who took a pass. Entreaties to tandems like Pete Davidson and John Mulaney, and Steve Martin and Martin Short, also didn’t work. Davidson didn’t care for the experience cohosting New Year’s Eve with Miley Cyrus we hear, and Martin and Short conveniently have a stop on their comedy tour in Connecticut that night. Along the way, Oscarcast producer Will Packer shifted to a plan to have three pairs of hosts. Many were asked, but it looks like Sykes, Schumer and Hall will run solo, each hosting a leg of the telecast. Sources said a few dozen potential Oscarcast hosts were approached. Having multiple hosts removes the stigma of inevitable brickbats from being absorbed by one person.

(snip)

Sykes and Schumer are edgy and bright stand up comediennes, and Hall has demonstrated comic timing as an actress.

I never heard of those hostesses. Are they famous for something?

My guess is that Schumer is pretty good at knocking down some pies.

Amy’s father is a second cousin to Chuck. Not sure that makes her Chuck’s ‘niece’. Would you claim that if it was your family?

This is going to be such an epic fail for Hollywood that it may generate bad bits worth watching on YouTube. Three snotty female comedians completely misses the desiderata for a good Oscars host: crisp and dignified, with a light, wry touch of humor.

That usually means late career actors with a proven touch for drama and comedy on both the big screen and before a live audience, like Tom Hanks, Kenneth Branagh, or Brian Cox. Helen Mirren or Judy Dench could also pull it off. Recruit by offering piles of cash and perks until one of them says yes, knowing that the good ratings they are likely to generate will make the business and budget aspects pay.

Above all, an Oscars host has to keep the whole bloated production moving along in apparent good shape in spite of glitches and the fundamental absurdity of actors patting each other on the back with awards pretending to be a form of civic virtue like medals of valor to heroic cops or firefighters. Three female comedians trying to upstage each other will make for a mess, with potential for a cat fight on live TV.

Rating debacle in the making. All 3 couldn’t draw flys on a garbage scowl little less a audience. Dirty secret in Hollywood is that anyone with a reputation worth keeping wont host the Oscars. Thats why they’ve gotten such huge audience draws likes Seth Rogan and Jimmy Kimmel. Next year maybe they should get hip hop artists like Snoop to scare the crap out of white bread Holywood.

They reflect the crowd that still actually watches the Oscars.

I believe you are spot on. I used to watch the Oscars every year. That was when there were actual "STARS" sitting there and the movies were worth watching, also, people had actually WATCHED the movies.

Now, I just don't know what these movies are; and, I am usually not interested in watching them. I got duped into watching The Power of the Dog simply because I wanted to see Benedict Cumberbatch, who I consider a very good actor. I should have paid more attention to the fact that the director was Jane Campion. She also took 2 hours of my life that I will never get back from when I watched The Piano. Hubby and I have learned our lesson. No more Jane Campion.

The Power of the Dog, ended up being just another piece about a homosexual. Very disappointing.

However, I am absolutely confident that it is going to win Best Picture.

“that’s his niece, Amy.”

Thanks. Here’s more from wikipedia.

Schumer’s father was born to a Jewish family from Ukraine. He is a second cousin of U.S. Senator and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.

Based on the wikipedia entry, Amy’s not my type.

There was a movie a couple years ago about some black guy I think that had the word purple in the title I remember the name of it but it won the Oscar that year. It was almost immediately released for free on Amazon prime. I never watched it. But I do is I go by the star rating and the IMDB rating on Amazon prime and if IMDb is less than six I won’t bother and at the star rating is less than four I won’t bother.
