Relevant poetry from an unlikely source.

I'm playing through Fallout 76 (I highly recommend this game for people who enjoy this particular hobby), and I found this poem on a terminal within the game.  I found it frighteningly accurate to what's happening today.

We toiled in their fields,

     They let us starve.

We filled their coffers with gold,

They filled our lungs with sludge.

We broke our backs,

     They broke our hearts.

We told them of our pain,

They hooked us on their painkillers.

We voted,

     They stole our elections.

We asked for fair wages,

     They bled us dry.

We demanded safe work spaces,

     They took our jobs away.

We wanted a normal life,

     They foreclosed our American dream.

We were friends,

They made us suspicious of our neighbors.

We organized,

They sent us to die in foreign countries.

We proclaimed our humanity,

     They renounced their own.

We wear tired but proud faces of real women and men,

They hide behind tin can butlers and plastic faces.

We want a world lived in by men,

They want a graveyard patrolled by robots.

It's not as if we have bots roaming around yet, but if big tech has their way, this is how things will go. It's amazing how many pieces of this game I'm finding to be relevant to life today in reality.

Didn’t care for FO76, but that poem is not bad.

There is much to relate to in that piece.
It could have been written this morning, or anytime since 2008.

I imagine it as a ballad, with acoustic guitar accompaniment plus flute in certain parts. Sung as a Duet, with one voice making declarations of fact, the other voice answering in a rueful, Greek Chorus fashion.

I’m with you. Love the game and the franchise. Thanks.

It’s changed a lot since the beta, which is when I started playing it. The special seasonal events are fun, and you can make real dollars off of in-game items on GameFlip if you have something really rare or an item that was discontinued (for instance, a legacy legendary weapon, like an explosive cryolator or explosive laser weapon. They go for big bucks.).

Nuclear Winter was a great PvPE game mode, but as is the way of Bethesda, they took it away. I think 70% of my Fallout friends dropped the game because of its discontinuation. If we’re lucky, they’ll bring it back someday.

Probably not, though.
