IBM has been losing business and revenue for decades. Their idea of how to modernize is comically out of touch - let’s get rid of older people who know what they’re doing, and hire young people who will work for low salaries. What could possibly go wrong?
IBM is lucky to have any workforce at all. They've missed the boat on nearly everything. They're only looking for younger talent to pad the pay and compensation for their executives.
Or, it is well known that dead corporate wood accumulates and prudence dictates that it be cleared out.
In a company the size of IBM, there can be an awful lot of alcoholic, chronically unwell, retired at the desk employees that should be moved out of the work force. All that ignores the fact the old guys are not up to technical date.
