A few years ago,while on "safari" in Kenya,we got talking to our guide during the long drive to Amboselli National Park. At one point we got on the subject of poachers and he told us that the Kenyan park authorities have a "shoot to kill" policy when dealing with them.They don't try to drive them off...or arrest them...they try to kill them.

Given how important tourism is to many African countries I don't blame them for that policy. No elephants = no tourists. And no tourists = starving citizens.
