I agree. One of the most useless critters on the planet. Right after Socialists.

Starlings, of course, are non-native to North America. The fact that they thrive here now attests to their intelligence and aggressiveness. I was never a fan of them until I had to do several bird surveys in areas where their numbers are growing. They’re actually quite funny birds to observe (and they’re accomplished mimics too). I used to always laugh when they “wolf-whistled” at me.

But keep in mind our native birds can be shockingly aggressive too. One of my favorites is the House Wren. It’s infamous for searching out other bird nests and furtively poking holes into any eggs to kill off the young.

Nature is brutal. But always interesting.
