I find these statement to be contradictory and I don't believe the 2nd one.
Nice post otherwise. I hope the kid recovers.
When I played sports in high school, we always had to have a physical exam at the start of the year. My blood pressure was always normal, but in the high-normal range. I had a heart attack at age 39. I don't smoke; I don't drink; and I don't take street drugs. They didn't believe me in the emergency room until the blood tests came back. I now have the Mercedes-Benz of pacemakers but I'm almost 72.

There was a death of a top athlete my sophomore year in 1967, a kid who was slated to be the next season’s starting quarterback on a football powerhouse. His aorta ruptured in his sleep, a congenital defect. I’d moved to SoCal that year and didn’t know him but a lot of the class had gone to school together since first grade and it came as a real shock to them.
We had several more deaths over the next two years but those were easier to explain, the drug culture had arrived.
