Driving in Circles Is Not a Crime
2/11/22 | Chad N. Freud

Blocking a roadway with a stopped vehicle might be construed as a crime. And be punishable.

Driving around a block (slowly enough to avoid the traffic ahead of you) is not.

If you have the numbers -- and I think we do -- then:

(a) Anyone who needs to peel off and refuel, or take care of other business, can do so without harming the cause; and

(b) Not only trucks, but cars, vans, and even motorcycles and bicycles can join in the fun.

The beauty is: what can police do? Pull over an individual vehicle? Block a lane? That just clogs up the merry-go-round, and the congestion then becomes their fault.

Just food for thought.

Right . . . with enough vehicles, a vehicle may only pass a given point every fifteen or thirty minutes, thus negating any anti-cruising law.

Not every jurisdiction had a drag worth cruising.

The result in my local, two drive-ins closed as did a pizza place and some fast food joints...loss of sales tax revenue to the town.

"How are they going to arrest someone in a moving vehicle?"

???

Failure to stop for the Po-Po in Texas is a felony, ie felony stop worthy of being shot.

“Failure to stop for the Po-Po in Texas is a felony, ie felony stop worthy of being shot.”

Such a felony stop should help traffic flow.

That would not end well for the police.

If they start shooting, the country comes apart.

Then it becomes a traffic alert due to Police Activity.

“Then it becomes a traffic alert due to Police Activity.”

Exactly.

The cause of the traffic delay then becomes shared between the convoy and the government agents.

Plus, you jumped to a felony-stop scenario (”???”) when metmom simply asked “”How are they going to arrest someone in a moving vehicle?”

I think the question posed was “what probable cause would police have to pull over a vehicle that is moving and proceeding in an orderly fashion in (congested) traffic?”

Anything the police want...one was not observed staying evenly in their lane, not signaling far enough in advance or for too long as a examples.

Some states and cities have anti-cruising laws.

Someone should set up a hotline where people can order a burger delivered by a big rig for $100 (which would be like a donation to the cause). Then dispatch drivers in the convoy for the pickup and delivery. And only pickup and deliver where you want to demonstrate.

Imagine thousands of truck drivers picking up a dollar burger somewhere and driving it somewhere close by to drop off.

If the police try to arrest a driver, or tow or pull over a truck, all of the trucks nearby should surround the one the police are targeting so that it cannot go anywhere. Rinse. Repeat.

They’re probably endless ways to achieve their outcome.

And in the end the nation depends on the truckers. And I’m guessing the court of public opinion is going to side with them and their simple demand.

Continuing to orbit a block *is* illegal in many places, due to ‘anti-cruising’ ordinances.
