Nathan Chen put the ghost of PyeongChang emphatically behind him, delivering a whopping 218.63-point free skate to become just the second American man to win men's singles in 30 years -- and cement his status as the best men's figure skater in the world.

And you can tell he's always been very proud to represent the USA. Even his long time coach, Rafael Arutyunyan (who hails from the former USSR) also became a US citizen with his wife in 2019.
Something poetic about an individual with roots in the host communist country, having the time of his life during his FREE skate representing the land of the FREE.
Elton John medley Ping!
“...just the second American man to win men’s singles in 30 years”
He’s the third American man to win gold in men’s singles in 34 years. Why cut it off arbitrarily at 30 years, and say he’s the second one?
Or, why not simply say he’s the first to win since 2010?
Must be a millennial or Gen Z-er writing these things.
Very talented. Speaks two languages, plays piano. Wonder what else he excels at?
spectacular!
I gotta watch. I did get Peacock to test out for the Olympics. I do understand the dislike. This is not NBC’s fault. Olympics used to mean something and people may want to watch.
Figure skating gets mocked as not the most manly sport (and it ain’t), but men like Chen are incredible athletes.
I’m confident he could outperform your average Green Beret at almost any athletic challenge.
He has a skater girlfriend. He also skates and performs more male like.
That said, he has a lot going for him.
Elton John? No thank you.
I’m confident he could outperform your average Green Beret at almost any athletic challenge.

You take gold in the ‘nonsense that absolutely no one was thinking about’ event.
Well said.
Define ‘manly’.
Skill? Strength? Courage?
I found the first two-thirds boring, but did like his ending.
I found this to be a real treat. Nathan’s first public appearance at age 10. He is on absolute fire and you see why his career has deserved all the hype to the point that he can just sort of chill and relax-skate his way to Gold. He’s just that good, that at this point he is at his best when he just lets lose and lets go. :)
Wow!
Fantastic performance.
The endurance it takes to do that kind of skating for that long is phenomenal.
What a cute kid and what amazing talent.
It’s astounding that they can remember such long and intricate performances.

“I’m confident he could outperform your average Green Beret at almost any athletic challenge.”
Good thing you included the word “almost”.
To name just one thing...how much do you think Nathan Chen can lift and carry for a distance, versus a Green Beret?
