With GoT at least, they kept the characters and plots intact. Even if they ended up miscasting or changing up dialog.

With WoT and this last LOTR travesty... all that goes out the window.

That is not true after the red wedding, the characters and plots were extremely different in GoT TV show vs book. But again, most people watching haven't read the books and a large portion of those that have won't care if they take liberties as long as they like what was done.
