One of the things that makes me ambivalent about this story is that the whole issue reinforces the underlying irrationality of “women’s sports” as an institution. Women’s sports has always been an inferior imitation of men’s sports (i.e., REAL sports). That’s why the whole controversy about these mutant trannies is very one-directional. The idea that you’d ever see this played out the other way (women trying to compete against men) is so ludicrous that nobody even considers it.
The female competitors in this NCAA have a point, and I wish them well, but when I look at it objectively it has all the moral and political urgency of Special Olympians complaining that one of the competitors isn’t really retarded.
The idea that you’d ever see this played out the other way (women trying to compete against men) is so ludicrous that nobody even considers it. I remember a few years back a woman golfer wanted to compete with the men in a tournament. She claimed she was just as good and demanded to play. They gave into her demands and guess what, she came in DEAD LAST.
