One very lucky guy just collected a six-figure lottery win in Virginia, after all 264 of his tickets came up winners in two separate drawings, Virginia Lottery officials say.

Yes, 264 tickets.

Jalen Taylor of Charlottesville won $132,000 when each ticket proved to be worth $500, Virginia Lottery officials said in a Feb. 3 news release.

The prize came after Taylor went big and bought two large batches of Pick 3 tickets over a two-month span. The first was 104 tickets with the numbers 960 he got for the Nov. 18 drawing, and the second was 160 tickets with the numbers 542 he purchased for the Jan. 10 drawing.

Tickets are $1 each.

Both of his 3-digit combinations were drawn, netting him $52,000 with the first batch and $80,000 with the second, officials said.

The odds of that are greater than the powerball.

Did he just happen to stumble on fixed numbers?

Could be.

Of course, when they fixed the PA lottery, the winner was 666.

Like to hear from a statistician or mathematician but that sounds beyond astronomical odds. I bet the printing company messed up and printed all the winning tickets sequentially that day/month whatever. Then he just happened to be the guy that bought a bunch.

Misleading headline. Only 2 different numbers spread across 264 tickets. The odds of 264 unique numbers being picked correctly would make a googleplex seem like a small number in comparison.

Sounds like those Dominion vote machines have been adapted for use in the Virginia lottery.

Stupid headline. He picked TWO numbers that were winners and bought multiples of each number. I DESPISE the media. ALWAYS misleading. ALWAYS hype. ALWAYS deceiving people.

Right. He didn’t pick 264 numbers correctly. He picked 2 numbers correctly.

I was wondering about that. The explanation is not really clear.
The winner’s first mistake is allowing the press to report his full name and how much money he’s won.
“Old friends” will be lining up asking for loans that won’t ever be repaid.

I remember here in New York city the one year anniversary of 911 the winning numbers for pick 3 were actually 911.

I always thought there was something very strange or deliberate in that date. 911 is what you dial on the phone for an emergency, and 911 the two number 1s look like the World trade center. Was this all deliberate or just coincidence?

That was my first thought too, but he actually only played two numbers, both of which were $500 winners. He just bought a lot of each number.

I think one of the conditions of collecting the big winnings is that the lottery commission has the right to publish your name.

I remember that. The dopes that tried it made two mistakes. One, they weighed the number balls in such a way that weird numbers could come up. And two, they told their relatives how to bet ahead of time.

Loose lips sink ships.
