I now know why no one in my family has ever had life insurance, even though my great gf owned an ins company or something

What do you expect? Insurance is about risk, and premiums are calculated based on risk. A 70-year old person seeking life insurance could probably get insured, but the premiums would be prohibitive.
When is Ladder day? I know March is Ladder month.

I beg to differ with your sentiment, but they did all go after the goofy semi-white male, so they have that going for them because we are generally fair game.
