ASTRONAUT WARNS TOM CRUISE ABOUT APPALLING SMELL ON SPACE STATION
futurism.com ^ | VICTOR TANGERMANN

Glover, who was part of the first operational crew mission to the ISS on board SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft in November 2020, gave Cruise several pointers as to what to expect. Cruise partnered with SpaceX in 2020 to film what could soon become one of the first action movies filmed in space.

During an interview for the NASA podcast “The Body in Space” — originally recorded in November, but published Friday — Glover didn’t beat around the bush.

“When you first get to space station is when you notice the smell the strongest because you kind of get saturated and you get used to it after, but it was an interesting combination...

“When you go into the module that has the lifting, the strength training equipment, that’s also where the bathroom is. So, that’s the most odoriferous module.”

“That one smells like a locker room,” he said, also likening the overall odor of the station to the smell at a hospital.

Glover also recalled what it was like riding a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket.

“It is such a high-performing liquid rocket,” he said. “It’s smooth, but it really leapt off the pad. And we got to the 100-kilometer point, and we were all smiles. It was just so amazing.”

I was 17 walking at night on a wooded trail and ran into a Skunk and got sprayed head to toe. I was completely incapacitated on my knees retching and vomiting, I could not breath. My friends ran away, I do not blame them. I stumbled home, my Grand Father poured cans of pineapple juice over me, it cut the smell fast. I can still smell it in my minds eye....

The reason GF’s son shot the skunk in the first place is has a passionate hatred of them after he got sprayed when he was a little kid.

Whoring out space rides to Hollyweird for a crappy station with no smell filtration.

They deserve each other 🤪

Isaac Asimov speculated in the Foundation series that every spaceship would have its own unique smell, which you would hate at first, then not notice after a while, and finally, would miss if you were away from your ship too long.

A small enclosed space with recycled air and an ever-present human population stinks. Imagine that.

They have not made any progress on air quality ? It stinks ?

There is a labor shortage of housekeepers who are also talented scientist astronauts.

Try working a mint field.

The worst I have ever experienced is just driving by a Brussels Sprout field along the California coast.

It smells like they are growing flatulence.

“No Febreze in space?”

The rumor was that Ozium was developed by NASA for space flight. A search on goog doesn’t bear this out.

But it has been around since the late 60s early 70s which corresponds with the Gemini/Apollo timeframe.

I was on a DE for years. The smell on a warship is a combination of a locker room smell and diesel fuel fumes.

Well, people say that if you catch Covid, you lose your sense of smell. Maybe that’s the solution when visiting the space station. 😳

There is no smell like ‘boat’. It gets in your clothes, hair, skin. Takes a bit to go away after a deployment. Good days on the 667 Bergall.

I like the smell of a paper mill. I used to do a little work at Boise Cascade mill in Camas,

You worked there and it was the smell of money. For the rest of us, the smell of a paper mill not so much

That does not say Tommy Boy hisself is actually going to go into space, just that he’s making a movie in space - his scenes could just as easily be blue-screened in Holy Wood.

I got caught in a traffic jam one time downwind of a rendering plant. I don’t think anyone could get used to that.

1980’s downtown Port-au-Prince traffic. Combination of rotting garbage, waste of every description, rotting citrus peels and heavy diesel fumes all in stifling mid-day heat.

I thought it could not get worse until I got to another area where there was a cheap rum distillery...it just hurt to breathe and A/C (when we had it...) windows up and recirculate air toggle did not help.
