You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days.  If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

I apologize for the post this morning that was incorrect.

I don’t think the author’s statement is always true. I have lost faith in a lot of people I know, some of whom I have thought reliable in the past.

As for solving the CG, I concentrated on TQUU with the double letter and thought of a word that fit with, EX with X being what I hoped it was. That led to recognizing the author’s name (resulting in face-palm, duh!) . After that it became easy to fill in the rest.

Easier than I thought. I started with the most common letter, and then took a guess at the second word. That got me the author and the rest of the puzzle.

Double letters at the end of the word are almost always gonna be the letter L. But I’m sure you know that by now. Then you’re off to the races.

You pulled it just for the last 3 letters of the author’s name? It’s not like similar things haven’t happened before.

” Double letters at the end of the word are almost always gonna be the letter L.”

Well, yes, unless it’s a long word and they are the letter S

😀

And sometimes you need to take a wild guess at it for success!

Ah, the ping list is back.

I cannot get going in the morning until I take a whack at the puzzle.
