Pope on taxes: A sign of equality, justice and legality

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis encouraged tax collectors on Monday to keep working to redistribute wealth and fund social services that help the poor, saying their efforts are a “guarantee of equality” that helps the common good.

Francis met with members of Italy’s tax collection agency and recalled that the taxes they gather pay for Italy’s public health care system. Francis urged them to defend that, “because we shouldn’t fall into a health care system that you pay for, where the poor don’t have a right to anything.”

My deceased wife (Feb 2019) is Catholic. She was no fan of the last few Pope’s.

All Catholic churches should pay property taxes on property they own everywhere around the world.

The Pope has earned it.

I think that the pope and I might just be able to find some areas of agreement- for example, let’s start taxing all property owned by churches that is not used for actual church services, such as any companies, organizations, including rental properties, or business that are owned by a church, and is in competition with tax-paying private businesses.

Jesus encouraged people to willingly help the poor, INDIVIDUALLY.

He did not advocate money be taken by force to be redistributed.

Start taxing the church at 70 percent and see how long
that lasts.

Didn’t Jesus have a few words with tax collectors.

I’ll think about it right after the Vatican clears out its art/coins/etc. and reduces the Pope and staff to a living equal to that of the poorest portion of Italy. (It’s only fair, not?) Actual practicing Catholic priests can easily be sustained by their respective parishes.

I’m not Catholic, but isn’t matters of Faith his only job? This dude is a politician, not a religious figure.

Christ said for the individual to take care of the poor, not government to take from your neighbor to feed the poor and ease your conscience. I detest Francis and his messaging. If thats a sin so be it.

Nobody has ever accused Comrade Pope of being smart. The ultra wealthy will never pay those taxes that Comrade Pope is counting on to redistribute the wealth.
