@RepThomasMassie
It’s deceptive for airlines to say “federal law requires” when informing passengers of a bureaucratic edict that was never voted on by a single lawmaker.

So change the announcement. “CDC guidelines request you mask during flights and our bosses say no mask, no flying. Our plane, our rules.” At least that would be closer to the truth.
😷😲
They are too cowardly to say that. Corporations love to hide behind the govt’s skirts.
The airlines are pretty bad about the strong arm tactics for a non-legal mandate. But they don’t have a thing on the TSA nazi’s.
Stroke of a pen, weight of a law. 😕
I've been through 6 different airports in the last 6 months and some announcements mention a federal law requiring masks, some refer to an executive order, and I've also heard them say CDC mandate.
It's worded different in every airport, but it's typically one of the 3.
Wearing of Face Masks While on Conveyances and at Transportation Hubs
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an Order on January 29, 2021, requiring the wearing of masks by travelers to prevent spread of the virus that causes COVID-19. Conveyance operators must also require that all persons wear masks when boarding, disembarking, and for the duration of travel, with certain exemptions as described in the Questions below. The Order defines “conveyance” as including “aircraft, train, road vehicle (including rideshares), vessel…or other means of transport, including military transport.” (42 CFR §§ 70.1, 71.1). Operators of transportation hubs must require all persons wear a mask when entering or on the premises of a transportation hub. A “transportation hub” means any airport, bus terminal, marina, seaport, or other port, subway station, terminal, train station, U.S. port of entry, or any other location that provides transportation”. More information about this order can be found on the CDC’s website, including CDC’s FAQ’s for this mask requirement, here.
I was in the UPS store the other day and the young woman said “Put your mask on.”
I said “Why.”
She said “It’s the state law.” (California)
I said “No it isn’t. No entity in the entire country has passed a law requiring a mask to be worn.”
Ignorant idiots.
God bless Rep Massie.....he’s one of the VERY few fighting this oppression.
The first airline to announce they are mask free wins. I bet the Biden illegals fly maskless.
Glad to see that law making is being farmed out to subset Fed agencies so the CONgress can get to work doing what they do best. Padding their nest eggs. LOL! Sadly, sheeple comply unquestioningly. “Oh, okay.”
Massie should properly frame the question.
Congress is supposed to pass laws under our constitution. Period.
We now live in an unprecedented time in our nation where bureaucracies or executive agencies (or the executive) essentially govern by edicts bypassing congressional authority.
To play devil’s advocate here it is not all bad even if its unconstitutional since our congress cannot pass a one-page law if their life depended on it. Every bill is now a 10k page monstrosity that costs a trillion or more.
It’s insane.... pick your poison. Death by bureaucracy or death by fiscal insanity
Yes, lawmakers need to reign in the airlines because they make that excuse for everything, when in fact There are no laws for what they attempt to do. The government, for example does not mandate baggage size or weight.
The Department of Transportation is relying on 42 CFR §§ 70.1 and 71.1, which are laws designed to intercept "Typhoid Marys" who come into the country.
“intercept “Typhoid Marys” who come into the country.” Being well implemented at our southern border. /$
With what is happening at our Southern border, why even bother checking passports of people flying into the United States?
Hell, let 'em in without a Visa, and give them a complementary domestic flight to any city they choose.
Almost every business will use the phrase “you gotta do this, it’s the law”
Red flag almost everytime.
Watch your back.
