I hated it growing up.
It infected AM radio.
That was beautiful. Got me very misty eyed.
And Roger Nichols.
Who were unknown writers at the time(With A & M)
Richard heard a Bank Commercial that featured part of the song.
Called Williams up and asked Nichols/Williams if it was a full song.
They said yes. The rest is history for both the Carpenters and Nichols/Williams.
They wrote numerous hits for Richard and Karen after that.
“Because he’s thirsty, Dummy!”
Her voice is similar to that of Julie Andrews.
Her intonation is so razor sharp, as is her sense of timing.
She was an extreme perfectionist, and that was her undoing.
One of the great and tragic ironies that a woman who expressed romantic love with such supreme artistry and musical talent couldn’t find it for herself. Painful to think about even today, and though I never knew her except through the sounds she made.

Karen: a once-in-a-lifetime vocal talent (timbre and nuance).
Richard: an exceptional composer and arranger.
Me too! I’d change the station if it came on. By that time I rarely had on radio stations that would play it. I was well on my way down the metal road.
