Gov DeSantis seems like an ok guy. I’m not sure if he’s entirely there on battling illegal immigration (Cuba) although I can understand why he’s not there yet - FL’s coastline. Florida is doing something right. These are Covid deaths reported yesterday in various states, and are typical of what I've been seeing for several weeks:

Florida - 5
California - 292
Texas - 222
New York - 182
Illinois - 141
Pennsylvania - 137
North Carolina - 78
Michigan - 106
Virginia - 39
South Carolina - 85
Maryland - 56
New Hampshire -12

The only state that comes close in this list is tiny New Hampshire, with a small fraction of Florida's population. It seems like Florida has actually learned something about effective treatments over the last two years, whereas many states seem to keep trying the same old ineffective things.

If you look at total deaths since July 1, 2021 (delta + omicron):

Florida: 26,300
California: 16,811

Or if you just look at omicron (deaths since Dec 15):

Florida: 2,234
California: 4,233

I prefer Florida where things are open and people live there lives, but it didn't come without a cost.
