Norway, Finalnd, UK have sold more EV’s than diesel.

Ford ‘s new hybrid pickup the maverick so many they stopped taking order at over 200k sold.

You may not want an EV (yet) but plenty of people find them to suit their needs.

Another quick google search shows that in Norway for example, EV sales are artificially bolstered by 'economic incentives' imposed by the government:

In addition to non-monetary incentives, all-electric cars and vans are exempt from all non-recurring vehicle fees, including purchase taxes, and 25% VAT on purchase, making electric car purchase price competitive with conventional cars. Also, a tax reduction for plug-in hybrids went into effect starting in July 2013.

Which supports SPDSHDW's earlier opinion that that EV mania is fueled by politics, and not the traditional reasons of efficiency, simplicity, ease of manufacture, availability etc. This would all be fringe technology and the playthings of the wealthy if it were not for the heavy hand of government.
