Embracing affirmative action is virtually a job qualification for university administrators. The same is true, alas, for faculty and students in the humanities and social sciences. They march in lockstep toward a society permanently categorized by race, all with the best of intentions but not the best of outcomes.
They aren’t just woke. Their eyelids are sewn open. They have no intention of snoozing if the Supreme Court rules their current admission policies are illegal. They will stand proudly in the schoolhouse door, protecting policies they believe promote “social justice” and “equity.”
Their tactics to evade the court are surprisingly simple. Since admissions tests leave traces of discrimination, they’ll drop them. Having ditched these useful standards, university bureaucrats can sit behind closed doors, choose the applicants they favor, reject those they don’t, and leave no pesky evidence they are violating the law. Asian Americans, Jews, and other disfavored groups won’t have a record to show their test scores are systematically higher than favored groups, who are now being admitted despite their scores. To misquote Martin Luther King, universities are looking at the color of applicants’ skin, not the content of their academic qualifications.
Universities aren’t waiting for the Supreme Court to rule on whether affirmative action is constitutional. They already taking preemptive steps, designed to keep their current practices in place, this time without leaving fingerprints. Some 1,700 colleges and universities have already made SAT and ACT test scores optional for admission.
Why have universities dropped standardized tests? Not because these tests are biased or because they fail to predict academic performance (their primary purpose). Quite the contrary. The tests have been assiduously scrubbed to prevent cultural or racial bias, as they should be, and they are recognized as valuable tools to match students with the colleges

All part of marxist theory to play groups against each other. If you are born white or asian then you are penalized. Isn’t that racism?
Universities have descended to very expensive day care students to keep children at until their 30s
Well then we look at the demographics of the students vs the US population. Once we again prove they discriminate, then we have the government cut off tax paper funding.
They are only succeeding in making a university degree useless.
Does it have to be so complicated?
When my son was applying to colleges about 20 years ago, each application required he include a photo of himself.
Do they still do that? If so, seems a pretty easy way to check a person’s race.
Why bother? The Supreme Court is as “woke” as any corrupt government agency.
Those tests are meaningless, IAC, when the average IQ of applicants is between 50 & 60...
Its obvious why they’re dropping standardized tests. They are objective measures. They have to get rid of all objective measures in order to illegally discriminate on the basis of race which everybody knows is their intent.
That’s why states should pass laws requiring them to admit the most qualified on the basis of first SAT/ACT test scores and secondly, GPA. With a handful of exceptions for athletes (let’s face it, football and men’s basketball generate profit), all subjective criteria should be eliminated. Leftists simply cannot be trusted with ANY amount of discretionary authority.
Universities no longer serve any useful purpose.
I have taught kids preparing for the SAT in two months more language skills than they learned in all their years of K-12 school.
Dropping the SAT/ACT requirement will prod K-12 schools into even less fundamental language teaching than they do now.
Next to go: state standards tests.
