Newt’s trade policies were severely misguided. We now understand how costly so-called “Free Trade” is. But that wasn’t my point.

The point is that they laid out a contract, and they did their best to fulfill it. They brought bills forward as promised and they voted on them. They didn’t win everything. Some bills had to be split up, but they were sincere in trying to honor the contract.

If you don’t do that, then you are voting for vague promises. “Because ‘change’ is not a destination, just as ‘hope’ is not a strategy.” - Rudy

Comprehensive Immigration Reform:

1. Illegal aliens are to be detained upon detection and deported within twenty-four hours.

2. Any citizen knowingly employing, sheltering, concealing, or otherwise assisting (other than emergency medical care) an illegal alien shall suffer forfeiture of all property, real and personal, all assets, businesses, business licenses, and any other thing except his/her physical freedom and two changes of clothing; after which he/she may seek employment and start over.

3. Any non-citizen legally resident, acting as described in para 2 above, shall suffer the same penalty and be deported to his/her country of origin within 48 hours.

4. Any public official, in any branch of government, at any level, who under color of clemency, legal discretion, or other official privilege, shall obstruct, alter, or modify the swift application and extent of paras 1-3 above to any degree soever, shall suffer the same penalty and be summarily removed from office.

(That’s to keep judges from saying “ooooo, that’s too harsh” and governors etc. from handing out pardons to business-owner buddies.)

A bad idea, it would never work now. We must concentrate our efforts locally, statewide, and push the agenda from home.

A modern “Contract With America” would be just the bullseye a national media and deep state need to run against. We’d be handing them a single talking point to run on, and our message would, of necessity, be all over the place.

This is a very, very, bad strategy. What with many population shifts from poorly run states to still-yet-hanging-by-a-thread rationally run states, we need to work extra hard to preserve the republic in our states.

I really wish to emphasize: W. Bush was Governor before he was President. The lesson of the Trump years is, it literally doesn’t matter who captures Washington. The Deep State rolls on, crushing all.

We’ve GOT to capture our states, with REAL constitutional conservatism, to make a difference.

If DC, today, ordered a roundup of political dissidents, what would happen in Texas? Gov. Abbott would file a complaint in court, lose, and begin rounding up dissidents. But, hey, he tried, right? That’s all the confidence I possess in Austin, and THAT is where the change has to happen.
