Since she’s 18, she’d have to relinquish her U.S. citizenship to keep her Chinese citizenship, as far as understand it.
Illustrating why the founders excluded the children of foreigners from being President with the natural born citizen requirement.
No loyalty.
I do not give a shit about the Olympics, and I only post here because it showed up at the top of my feed.
Indulge yourself and others.
And that kids, is why we don’t trust first generation immigrants too much. They are worse than the actual immigrants because they romanticize the old country.
Guessing she’s as much a leftist as pelosi
I have heard that the majority ethnic group in China, Han Chinese, can be not so welcoming towards those who are not pureblood Han Chinese. How welcoming would they be if she were not an Olympic athlete?
How happy will they be with her if she doesn’t score Olympic gold for China?
Maybe the communist Chinese government looks at her as a useful idiot, as they use her for political reasons.
It is relatively difficult to make the US team and they allow people with some ancestry from a country to play on its team. For example, the Greek figure skating team is all Americans of Greek descent.`
What Olympics?
I read a few quotes from her.
She is an idiot.
“Okay but some of the commentary against her is totally uncalled for.”
Such as?
Maybe once she gets there she will test positive for Covid and be removed from competition KARMA!!!
What about when she's in Egypt or Liechtenstein? What is she then?
Regards,
She “abandoned” the U.S. and competes for a foreign country because she wouldn’t have made the U.S. team but will be one of the top competitors in the other country.
And she competes in a fake sport, too. The Winter Olympics lost a lot of credibility when they added stupid events like freestyle skiing and those silly snowboard events where failing a drug test means you test NEGATIVE for marijuana.
"with a picture with some dumplings"
If her incentive is a financial one....likely lots of endorsements in China if not direct payments from the Chinese government for winning a medal....I get it. That is especially so if she does not in fact have to give up her US citizenship.
Growing up I knew a guy whose parents were from Spain. He went to my high school and was an excellent swimmer. He swam for UF on full scholarship. Then he chose to swim for Spain rather than the US in the olympics. Why? Because nobody cared much about another swimmer in the US and he wouldn’t have gotten any endorsements etc. Spain’s government awarded its athletes $1 million for winning a gold medal. He won gold in the backstroke and collected his money. I can’t say I blame him. That’s life changing money for someone in their early 20s (especially 30 years ago) and he didn’t have to give up his US citizenship.
Initially, I was upset on hearing this, but plowing through bias against her in the article where you find that she:
1. Speaks fluent Mandarin
2. Has traveled to China almost every year of her life
3. Sees a need for role models in China for women getting into sports, i.e. skiing
4. Doesn’t really express her political views.....I think
I come out of this thinking....Hmmm...maybe this is a good thing.
China can have tanks, soldiers, missiles and a totalitarian mindset, but in the end we’re dealing with people who have had a taste of freedom esp in Taiwan,Ukraine etc.
Try taking the freedom away from people who have been free for a couple generations, like this skier, then take that freedom away.
Then you see real revolution.
I HAVE OFTEN SAID, THAT TRUMP HAD THE BEST CHANCE OF UNITING THE WORLD, THAN ANY OTHER PRESIDENT IN OUR HISTORY. HE WAS MORE POPULAR OVER SEAS THAN IN HIS OWN COUNTRY, BUT HAD HE RIGHTFULLY BEEN SWORN IN FOR ANOTHER TERM, WE WOULD HAVE SEEN PROSPERITY ON HEARD OF, THAT HE WOULD HAVE PASSED ON TO THE WORLD.
Anyway, that’s my opinion. People in the end, is what matters. This little girl, though naive, may in the end, like many in
Taiwan, may lead the young Chinese to true freedom.
“While still cashing in on her celebrity, she does not seem to understand or realize the conflict inherent in representing one of America’s long-standing enemies.”
We’re still pretending our government hasn’t been in bed with theirs for decades now? Our store shelves are filled with their low-quality lead-painted junk; referring to them as an “American enemy” is absurd.
ChiComs are enemies of the American PEOPLE and their freedoms; as their ally, our government is indicating they are as well.
She is only 18 so can ride this popularity for many years. She can announce she will compete for China is next Winter Olympics to keep herself relevant.
