Not so sure about the ‘lack of harm awareness.” How about lack of accepting what they were being taught. In the 70s many high school health classes covered all the dangers of street drugs. The cool kids smoked and some popped pills, and there was a lot of pressure to “give it a try”. When you are young, you are immortal, invincible and smarter than everyone else.
