I wonder how that sudden death overtime got going. They should just as well go with the coin toss and skip the plays. The coin toss almost invariably determines the winner, not the team effort and skills.

No, keep it as whoever scores first wins. BUT, both teams play at the same time - both offensive lines start on the, say, 30yd line (opposite ends of the field), and go until someone scores a TD first. Turnovers mean you go back to the 40. Interceptions are TDs if returned to the 50, otherwise 40yd reset.
