In British ScFi in my opinion Blake’s 7 is the best example of that! They replaced Blake the lead character after the second season, the character the show was named for! They showed rolled on for two more seasons. He’s brought back for the final episode of the last season. The show is a SciFi cult classic.
Change of character and appearance after a few years is part of the script.
If the doctor didn't reincarnate into someone else after a certain amount of time, fans would be disappointed.
I've watched Doctor Who starting with Patrick Troughton as the doctor (late 1960's).
My favourite female sidekick was Billie Piper. That sweet demeanour and fetching overbite gets me every time.
DITTO!
In addition, if they continue with a new broad and pathetic sidekicks in the role, I'll simply continue watching old tapes of the old-time original show and re-runs of the modern TV series (via Prime Video) up to, and including ONLY Peter Capaldi's first two seasons... His final season was total garbage...
Blake’s 7 started it all...
The same story line has been manipulated, copied, and expanded very successfully ever since the show expired...
I WISH I could believe this, nut no... they are doubling down; next Doc is a woman as well. Because it HAS to be ONLY Chibnal’s writing, you see. NuFans will NEVER admit making a man into a woman was a horrible idea. For me, Capaldi died, and the Rani took is place to sully the doctor’s legasy
DOCTORS ONE THROUGH TWELVE: “Human beings are wondrous, magical creatures, capable of great love and hope. I am the protector of the Earth through all time and space. I fight for ALL humans, of every race. The line in the sand is here!”
“DOCTOR” UNLUCKY THIRTEEN: “OOOOOOH, you humans are SUCH morons! You are petty, cruel and spiteful monsters, destroying the Earth and everything you touch. AND THE WORST OF YOU ALL ARE MEN, who sre selfish and racist mongrels! You should be ashamed of yourselves! Now, sit down like children, and listen to a multi-episode lecture about how you need to shape up! There will be ABSOLUTELY NO FUN going on here until I finish finding fault with everything you do. Because I have the moral high-ground, even though at one time I committed genocide.”
I never understood why, if they needed to have a woman Doctor, they did not just bring back the Doctor’s daughter who is already a timelord by birth...
She is still out there somewhere saving galaxies from evil...

You want a strong female lead? They could bring back Donna Noble! Or River Song! Or Rose, somehow. Or Amy Pond, somehow! Or Leela! Nope, virtue signalling REQUIRED they geld the Doctor, replacing him with Skoldylocks and her gay, transgendered Scooby gang.
Hey, folks, the Roku channel (you need a Roku, but the channel is free) - at least here in Canada- has a 24\7 streaming feed of classic Doctor Who, from William Hartnell right up to Sylvester McCoy.
I’ve been spending far to much time revisiting my misspent youth and earlier adulthood. There are commercial breaks, but it’s great other than that.
BritBox has most of the available original WHO. Halfway through Trouten, now, and enjoying it tremendously!
Favorite episode, Weeping Angels. Statues freaked me out for some time after that episode.
Stunt casting.
Snort.
Good luck with that.
The Doctor’s daughter is David Tennet’s wife. She’s also the Doctor’s daughter...5th one I think, after atom Baker.
TOM Baker.
Yes, they brought back EVERY Doctor for the big finale of that. They even gave Peter Capaldi a brief intense close-up of his eyes.
Yikes!
I did not know that...
IAC, all the more reason to have used her as the first female Doctor...😀
I would have liked to see Sean Pertwee as the Doctor. He may be a little too old for the role now. Seems the younger Doctors are more popular.
