My best friend’s daughter used to have seizures playing video games 20 years ago.

May have been other factors besides epilepsy. She had put on an enormous amount of weight in a very short time from what I saw online. That could be another symptom of an underlying problem.

I suppose...but to me: epilepsy/history of seizures + video games + 2am = likely cause of death.

As a parent of a child who's had seizures, it's a terrifying reality. Knowing that simply taking a shower may be unsafe. Or that a simple walk down the steps could turn into a call for an ambulance (never came to that for me, but the fear is there).

Breaks my heart and I feel for anybody who suffers from or loves somebody with a history of seizures of any kind.

I agree. Up way past bedtime staring at a screen that is likely strobing away....ugh.

I did not...although my child (20), shall we say, has lobbied for it for reasons that I think may go a smidge beyond her particular seizure disorder.

She was diagnosed with something called "PNES"...and YES, we HAVE made a few off-color jokes about it....yeah if you can think it, we likely said it.

Being psychogenic, she's been doing weekly therapy for stress/anxiety and hasn't has a seizure in going on a year. I consider us lucky as parents that we only had to suffer those worst, most intense fears for a year or so. I can assure anybody that while psychologically induced, those seizures are very very real. The little seed of fear will always be there, but she seems to be managing things well now.

There’s no way that epilepsy and strobing lights go together. Even in normally healthy people continued exposure to strobes can cause really, really weird effects.. Even some of the new style light bulbs that are available can have long term effects. There’s a reason that the strobe lights of the disco era aren’t around anymore-—they sometimes knocked people out. And if that wasn’t weird enough wait until the microwaves from 5G phones mix with the strobe effects of video games? We’re going to lose a generation of otherwise useful people.

Even fluorescent lights can give off a strobe effect. They can’t be used in machine shops because they sometimes mask the motion of a spinning machine making it appear “off”. And fluorescent lights can, in turn, cause a seizure in an epileptic——been there-—seen it happen. This little gal had some poor guidance it seems.
