I recently wrote to my United States senator, a Republican NeverTrump, respectfully asking why the January 6 detainees are still in jail, with many still in solitary and not arraigned for what was essentially trespassing on public property (forgetting for the moment the role of FBI instigators). (Incidentally, we should all be writing.) His reply saddened me profoundly. I received back a two-page harangue of how horrible January 6 was and how it imperiled our democracy. Buried within that harangue were unexpected admissions about the unconstitutional conditions in which far more prisoners are held than most people realize. Surprisingly enough, these admissions gave me hope.
For anyone who lived through Election Night 2020, and watched Trump winning comfortably at 11:00 P.M. EST, only to lose that massive lead by the following morning, skepticism about the election will always remain intense. (And it seems more people are getting skeptical by the day.) That skepticism is hardened by stories of municipalities that actually stopped counting during the night and reopened with large Biden pluralities.
This sense of wrongdoing doesn't justify trespassing and certainly doesn't justify vandalism. But what happened on January 6 still pales in comparison to the carnage that BLM and Antifa wreaked on many American cities and towns the previous summer — and without cost to its perpetrators in most cases. So a white-hot rage remains in many Americans.
But back to my senator's curious reply. After a lengthy harangue about Jan. 6, the depraved perpetrators, and the evil Donald Trump, he provided two very odd statements. First, he informed me that 570 people are still held in D.C.'s jails.
Five hundred seventy! I had no idea that so many were incarcerated for so long, without trial.

DC is run by Democrats. Everything run by Democrats is a sh*t show.
Kidnap and hold these ANTIFA & BLM POS hostages. Release the prisoners or the torture starts.
“....Defend Against All Enemies, Foreign And DOMESTIC....”
And we know who those people are.
Antifa was likely part of the Feds.
“So do none of the prisoners have lawyers to fight this injustice?”
Many of them, many most of them, have public defenders because they can’t afford “real” attorneys. The PDs are Trump haters, rarely see their clients, and when they do the further harass and taunt them. The ones who have non-PD attorneys most often aren’t allowed to speak with them.
At least one organization is trying to connect them with attorneys who can and will help. Some lawyers are doing it pro bono, and some need to be paid. Donations are being made to help.
There is a woman on War Room often who is spearheading this effort, but I can’t recall her name, or three organization’s name, now. Her nephew is one of the POWs.
Even in the light of this, so many will still parrot the notion than elections will save this society.
Pathetic not naming him.
You can guess easily enough. This is either Ben Sasshole or Minion Romney.
MOST of the GOP Senators are NeverTrumpers, including the ones like Flimsey Grahamnesty that try to fake like they are not.
No, they are fully committed to the New World Order that Daddy Bush dreamed of and implementing the Bush Plan for North Mexico (aka USA) as the first step.
Did you get some of Joe’s bucks to write that?
The reply was “textbook quotes” from bidet’s national press corpse. No deviation allowed by the public.
Give them a fair trial, but if found guilty they should be put away for a long time. Our nation is already far too lenient on criminals. I never thought I’d see the day when many Freepers would refer to those assaulting police officers as “POWs”, no different than the leftists making excuses for the latest black thug shot by police.
As for the claim that PDs are anti-Trump, if the defendants are antifa that shouldn’t matter. If they are genuine Trump supporters, well maybe they should have thought of that before committing a crime. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime. Thugs of any creed or color get no sympathy from me.
Go back to lurking.
570 is a lot of people. An entire football team is well under 100, for example. Imagine ~75 entire football teams all standing together, that would easily fill an entire football field, or more.
And I’ve not seen enough evidence in the best riot footage known to man to account for 570 people being worthy of being held without due process. Some are surely guilty, but they still have a right to a fair and speedy trial. That should be in the government’s interest as well.
So why isn’t this even be discussed, by any politician? Because we are;’t asking them about it. Did Candace Owens ask Trump about it, in our one shot for a true conservative to interview him, for example?
No, she did not. Then why not? Was it forbidden as part of the interview terms? Seems odd that she would ask him about January 6 in several regards, but not bring this subject up, doesn’t it?
All the talk is focused on who wasn’t arrested, like Ray Epps. How about some focus on who WAS arrested? Who are these people, does anyone even know. We need to find that out, which may answer why they are still being held, or why it would be a travesty that some still are.
But the fact that no one on the right will even address it is leaving a strong impression that all 570 actual deserve it, which I find a hard time believing. According to our Constitution no one deserves it.
I’m guessing Mittens!!!
A coup attempt?
A handful of people, egged on by FBI moles, and you call that a coup attempt?
Now if 5,000 armed army troops had made that effort it could be called a coup attempt, but the small group involved in the January 6 demonstration had no hopes of taking over the government.
The only weapon known to the public, was fired by a government employee. Not even a rock has been introduced in evidence as a weapon.
A coup?
570.
Let’s see..
535 Congress
9 Supreme Court
1 fake President
1 fake Vice President
Missing 24 names/positions in the Banana Republic..
Fauci would have to be on the ‘needs to be jailed’ list..
That's BS. It was a protest of a stolen election, infiltrated by troublemakers from the other side false flagged as us.
